Welcome to Light Talk

Light Talk was initially created by me as a daily blog back in 2009 as a challenge to myself to share my life as a lighting designer with the lighting community. The idea was to challenge myself to write a short review of my experiences, every day for a year, 365 days without fail. This eventually resulted in my first book Light Talk, a year in the life of light, published in 2010. Light Talk grew to become my knowledge sharing platform through blogs, project site reviews, vlogs and video interviews, conferences and media articles. These are now all available under one roof on this site.

Over the years I also wrote a column in Lighting Today Magazine. These reflections, which I wrote from 2003 till 2019 in each edition of the magazine give a great insight on how the lighting industry and trends developed over these years. They were ultimately bundled together in my second book, Light Talk 2, 16 years in the life of light, published in 2019. Both books can be downloaded from this site. There are more books in the pipeline, which will be added as they become available.

Initially linked to my lighting design practice Klaasen Lighting Design, Light Talk has now matured into an independent knowledge sharing platform where i share my more then 40 years of experience in the lighting design industry in many different forms. On this site you will be able to choose from different menus. You can watch my videos, you can listen to my podcasts or read my blogs or other written articles. You can also learn and educate yourself further by diving into my Light Talk Master Classes which is a growing collection of subjects of interest related to lighting and lighting design.

Knowledge sharing is a two-way street, we learn from each other. While sharing my knowledge is very rewarding and gratifying, I still learn every day from the people and projects around me. I welcome any feedback, comments and suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on hello@lighttalk.space
